BP MARINE, FAMM and SHELL MARINE PRODUCTS SIGN AGREEMENT TO DEVELOP e-COMMERCE SITE FOR SALE OF MARINE FUELS

WHITE PLAINS, NY, January 20 - BPMarine*, Fuel and Marine Marketing LLC (FAMM)*, and Shell Marine Products* today announced that they have signed an agreement to develop a marine industry-backed portal on the Internet that will feature an auction site and e-mail-enabled transactions for the purchase and sale of marine fuels. Called OceanConnect.com, the site will be an independent marketplace for all buyers and sellers of marine fuels and services.

Tom Reilly, head of the OceanConnect.com development team, said: "Recent developments in many industries - notably the airline and steel sectors - have demonstrated that a website jointly owned and governed by several companies is an effective means of ensuring an open, unbiased venue for the exchange of products and information. We believe an opportunity now exists in the marine fuels marketplace to replicate the commercial success of other, similar websites through OceanConnect.com."

The site is scheduled to become operational during the second quarter of 2000. It is anticipated that it will facilitate more efficient transactions for buyers and sellers of marine fuels and services, which in turn should lead to cost savings for shipping customers purchasing fuel and for suppliers selling product through the site. It will also provide users with up-to-the-minute market information, weather updates and other services ship owners rely on to run their businesses successfully.

"This e-commerce capability will enhance, not replace, the quality of direct contact between buyers and sellers," said Reilly. "Customer/supplier relationships will not only be strengthened by faster information exchange, but also through the choice of a wide range of suppliers that will be immediately available to customers," he added. To ensure OceanConnect.com evolves into a truly independent venture, additional partners from the marine industry and the information technology sector will be encouraged to participate in the venture through ownership and on-going development work.
